2008 WEEKENDS AWAY FOR MEN

• WHEN ARE THEY?
TThe three weekends take place in college grounds, each of which is set in magnificent countryside. The Scottish and Southern weekends begin on FRIDAY EVENING and end mid-afternoon on the SUNDAY. The Northern weekend begins on Saturday morning around 9.30am and also ends mid-afternoon on Sunday.

• WHERE ARE THEY?

• WHO ATTENDS?
- Any male 18 yrs and over is welcome to attend. Some dads bring their sons; some sons bring their dads, or grandfathers! in the past, on average 25% of men have been under 35 yrs old. 18% of men are over 65 yrs old. A number of priests also attend the weekends. Certain men choose to come alone, others come in groups from work, from their parish, or with other male family members.
- Many men who are attracted have experienced Alpha, CaFÉ, the new Ecclesial movements and communities, charismatic renewal, small parish groups, and other experiences of new life in the Holy Spirit.
- The majority of men are Catholic (practising and lapsed!) but a good number are not and ALL men are welcome to attend.

• WHAT HAPPENS?
The weekends consist of
- several punchy main addresses by invited speakers (see below) on contemporary topics
- a time of sharing in small groups (…there's never any pressure to share)
- an opportunity to attend workshops of your choice (see below)
- a chance to engage in sport or some other recreational activity (wide range of sporting facilities available: gym, squash, swimming pool, golf, rambling, tennis, football - NO SPORTS FACILITIES are available at Scottish weekend)
- time to read, pray or just relax
- time each evening to chat, share and laugh over a pint or two at the bar
- celebration of the Mass, and Anglican Communion (Mount St Mary's and Woldingham only)
- optional Sacrament of Reconciliation and/or Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament
- prayer of the Church

• WHO'S SPEAKING?
Principal speakers for weekends in 2008 are
SCOTLAND:
Rev Kenny Borthwick, a Church of Scotland minister who serves in Wester Hailes, a large city estate on the edge of Edinburgh. He is chairman of New Wine Scotland and runs CLAN Gathering, a summer conference for Christian families.
Charles Whitehead, a former businessman and former President of ICCRS (International Catholic Charismatic Renewal Services) as well as Chairman of Harvesters. He was awarded a papal knighthood and today also chairs the ecumenical organisation ICCOWE (the International Charismatic Consultation on World Evangelisation).
NORTHERN:
Fr John Trenchard CSsR was until recently the Provincial of the London Redemptorists and a member of the executive of the Conference of Religious. He has co-authored many books on the Catholic faith and the Sacraments. He feels an "overwhelming sense of privilege working for people who hunger to hear the Gospel and thirst to experience the kindness of Jesus Christ".
SOUTHERN:
Fr Jim Cogley: priest, fisherman, wood turner, artist, therapist and an inspirational speaker involved in the healing ministry. He is a assistant priest in a County Wexford fishing village and author of several books. He is renowned for keeping his listeners on the edge of their seats. Come and be inspired!

• WHAT ARE THE WORKSHOPS AND SEMINARS?
2008 workshops and seminars are still being finalised. Hoever, to give you an idea as to what we are about,the following list shows the sessions presented in 2007 on Saturday afternoon:

• WHAT'S THE TIMETABLE?
Each weekend begins with registration which runs from 3.00pm to around 8pm. (We cannot guarantee food for those who arrive after 7.45pm.) The weekends generally end around 4pm on the Sunday afternoon following the celebration of Mass at 2.30pm. The timetable has generally run as follows:

A non-refundable deposit of £20 will be required to secure a place and accommodation, and full payment of balance is required by MAY 20th for Scotland, and by JUNE 21st for the Northern and Southern weekends.
A limited number of concessions are generally available for under 25s and also for the unwaged. Please e-mail us for further details.
